When is the tax filing deadline?

For most individuals, federal and New York State returns are due April 15. When that date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day. An extension gives you more time to file, but not more time to pay.

What should I bring to my tax appointment?

A photo ID, Social Security numbers or ITINs for everyone on the return, your W-2 and 1099 forms, last year's return, and records of any deductible expenses. If you're not sure about a document, bring it or call us first.

I'm self-employed. Do I need to pay estimated taxes?

Usually, yes. If you expect to owe $1,000 or more in federal tax for the year, the IRS expects quarterly estimated payments, generally due in April, June, September and January. We can work out the amounts with you.

Do I need to collect sales tax?

If you sell taxable goods or services in New York, you must register with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for a Certificate of Authority at least 20 days before you start, then collect sales tax and file returns. We can handle the registration and the filings.
